Who We Are
Ware is built by Matt and Rose Katz, the founders of Ceramic Materials Workshop. Between them they bring over 60 years of ceramic materials experience — in the studio, in the lab, and in the classroom.
Matt Katz
Trained as a ceramic artist with a B.F.A. from Alfred University and an M.F.A. from the University of Colorado–Boulder. Matt also has over 25 years as a ceramic engineer and researcher, and has taught ceramic materials at schools such as Alfred and the Rhode Island School of Design. He has a gift for making ceramic science understandable for makers of all levels.
Rose Katz
Clay and glaze engineer with a B.F.A. from Alfred University and over 10 years in the tile industry. Rose has worked as an independent artist and production potter. Her combination of industry engineering and hands-on maker experience is why our formulations work in real studios, not just on paper.
